Skye Skinner Listened to A Day At The Museum this morning, driving through beautiful fog-laced plains and hills of remote Montana. Perfect, ethereal soundtrack for those miles. Incredible work, Riley. You need to work with a sculptor on a collaborative installation!

Part 1 I fell in love with a statue On a day wet and green I see you I see you Your limbs are bare and smooth and cold Petals from the apple tree are falling all around And I see you I see you My shoes scuff along the floor A kid meanders past with a sticky hand And a popsicle mouth The line from your shoulder to your waist Reminds me of summer You don't see the artistry But you are not the sculptor You can't see You can't see Like I do Like I do Like I do Part 2 There is something voyeuristic In seeing all these precious things That don't belong to me That used to belong to somebody That used to mean something simple Like a spoon or a sleeve And now we press our faces up against the glass partition Foggy from our breath or from the past Well, what's the difference? Part 3 You didn't paint me to rest Eyes open Strangers pass through my room And I hold them With my gaze No matter which way I look They always stare back at me I didn't know how to miss privacy Except at night when the lights shut off (the room becomes silent...) My eyes stay wide open Unblinking Starting at faces like mine Also awake in the dark Staring at faces like mine Also awake in the dark Staring at faces like mine Also awake in the dark

about

This is the quarantine project that I made to help me escape from my home. Part 1 takes us into the museum, where a marble statue becomes an object of love. Part 2 questions who has the right and the privilege to display objects and who has the right and the privilege to view them. Part 3 is from the perspective of the painted. I hope you will enjoy all three parts as a complete set.

This concept EP is dedicated to Colleen Burns, who gave me a ton of input on this project from day one, and who was forced to listen to this piece way too many times. You will always be my beautiful statue and my muse.
